Happy Birthday Sophia – Pickering Cake Smash Session

Oh my goodness this cake smash was SO MUCH FUN! Sophia’s Mama and I have been in contact for quite a few weeks now, going back and forth planning the details of her cake smash, deciding on the perfect theme and then planning all of the decor and cake. The work paid off – look how completely adorable this gorgeous 1 year old is on her purple and teal butterfly themed set!

With cake smashes you just never know exactly how the baby will react to the cake. Some love it and dive right in, smearing icing and cake on everything and smiling the entire time. Other babies absolutely hate having that messy icing all over them so we pull out a wooden spoon and encourage them to make a mess that way instead. The one thing the we CAN predict is that regardless of how the little one reacts, the photos will be hilarious and adorable. Really how can you go wrong with a sweet baby, a gorgeous set and a delicious birthday cake?!

I always try to start the session off with some pre cake “clean” portraits before we pull out the cake. Mom and Dad brought in this adorable rocking horse, which was her first birthday gift. She absolutely loved it and had a blast rocking back and forth while we played peekaboo and got some smiles!

Sofia was slightly unsure when we first put the cake down in front of her, but it didn’t take long for her to figure out that this gorgeous creation was absolutely delicious. (Seriously, so yummy. Sophia’s Mama actually made this beautiful tutu that she is wearing for her photos. Isn’t it cute?! I love the way the entire thing came together and can’t wait to design more beautiful custom sets for the cake smash sessions!

We finished off her cake smash session with a bubble bath in the wash bin. The perfect way to wash off some of that icing, let have some fun splashing around (what baby doesn’t love the bath?!) and get just a few more adorable images to finish off her gallery.

Thank you so much to Mom and Dad for allowing me to participate in Sophia’s first birthday celebration! I had so much fun watching her play, giggle and make a fabulous mess and I cannot wait to show you the rest of your images!
