I first met Vaaris last summer just after he was born for his super sweet newborn shoot. When his Mom sent a message saying she wanted to a cake smash, in all gold, black, white and silver I was all in!
This wasn’t a colour scheme/theme that I had used before but its always fun to come up with something new and we were both completely in love with how this one turned out.
The apprehension when the cake was first placed in front of him didn’t last long at all, and then little man was just diving in!
Vaaris wasn’t 100% sure he wanted to sit there, and ended up being pretty torn between the deliciousness of his cake and wanting to crawl away to his parents. In the end he did a little bit of both, which is totally fine as it only takes a few seconds here and there to get some really great shots!
All of that crawling away – and crawling ON the cake – made for a wonderful mess just adding to how adorable his photos were. I’m sure his brother at home wasn’t as jazzed as we were though, considering he was hoping to eat the left overs ?
And of course, one the cake was sufficiently obliterated we got him into the bath for some splashing, smiles and to get some of the cake cleaned off. In the end he ended up walking out of the studio far cleaner than poor Mom who looked a bit like she smashed the cake herself. ?
Thanks so much to Mom and Dad for not only trusting me to capture your cutie once again, but for a fantastic session full of laughs!

Cake smashes are an awesome way to celebrate and document the milestone of your baby’s first (or second, or third…) birthday. There are tons of sets available or we can work together with a new theme or colour combination for something new and unique.
Cake smash sessions can take place either one or close to the big day to add in to the fun and celebration, or a few weeks before in order to have them images to share or display at your little one’s party.
