Baby Shaun – Durham Newborn Photos

Shaun was a little bit older than the typical age for a newborn session, however he still completely rocked it! The reason that we photographers like to have babies in within the first two weeks after birth is that they are still quite sleepy and have that fresh “curled” appearance. It makes them easier to pose, and they fall asleep quite quickly. When a baby comes in that is past that “ideal” stage it means that they are generally more alert, and less flexible, therefore making them harder to pose and less likely to sleep through the session. It ALSO means that they are more likely to make eye contact, and occasionally even smile like this sweet boy did! ??

 

Shaun’s parents are originally from India, and were kind enough to share some of their traditions with me. The bracelet around his wrist is put on at birth and acts as protection for the new baby. Another old tradition is to put coal in around their eyes, which is said to encourage big, bright and beautiful eyes. I am always so appreciative when clients are willing to share about their culture!

It did take a little bit more effort, but went to sleep and posed beautifully. It was more than worth the extra few minutes!
